Watermelon joins Italy: up the watermelon!

History tells that at the beginning of the 20’s, at the end of the Great War, a truck full of watermelons arrived in Villa Lagarina. This fruit was still unknown and caused astonishment among children and adults. The precious load was immediately put in the big fountain in the centre of the town to refresh and people started the celebration for the patronal festival.
From that day on the fountain became the “Watermelons fountain” and on the annual patronal festival this summer fruits were no longer missing. Villa Lagarina dedicates the 8th edition of the Watermelon feast to the Unity of Italy. The watermelon that joins Italians with its colours green-white-red, becomes a metaphor to remember our “Bel Paese”.
