Brentonico

Trentino’s Hortus Italiae

Located on the slopes of Monte Baldo, Trentino, a stone’s throw from Lake Garda, Brentonico is called the ‘Hortus Italiae’ for the rich diversity of its plants and flowers.
Brentonico, of Gallic origin, is formed by the villages of Vigo, Lera, Fontana and Fontechel, while the entire plateau has ten other villages.

The Parco dei Fiori del Monte Baldo (Monte Baldo Flower Park) was recently founded in the area.
In flowering season you can admire species of flower that survived the Quaternary glaciations. Overall, there are more than 60 different species of orchid.
Interesting varieties of flower are also collected in the renaissance botanical garden of Palazzo Baisi in Brentonico, subdivided into areas of growth.

Visit the Monte Baldo Museo del Fossile (Fossil Museum) and the still operative Mulino Zeni (Zeni Mill).

The Church of SS. Apostoli Pietro e Paolo (VIII-X C) is a medieval jewel, with altars from the master sculptors of Castione. The Church guards a seventeenth century organ and the crypt of S. Giovanni (IX C), the only example in Trentino of a wholly preserved crypt.

An extensive network of forest roads and trails, including the Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace), welcomes hikers, bikers and horse-riding fans.
The plateau is home to summer camps for children and reference point for the training of the Italian and German ski teams and professional football teams.

In winter the modern lifts at Polsa and San Valentino allow skiing on 35 km of slopes suitable both for beginners and expert skiers.
A large and well-equipped snow park is available for snowboarding fans.
At S. Giacomo the cross country slope is groomed for both classic and skating styles.
Sledging, skating and snowshoeing are also available for your winter holidays.
