Volano
Strolls among vines and capitals
Volano lies on the left bank of the river Adige, approximately 4 km north of Rovereto, in the heart of the Vallagarina.
In the old town you can admire the
church of San Rocco (1502), a small gothic jewel with spectacular frescoes.
On the 16th August, the day dedicated to San Rocco, you can attend the procession through the streets of the village and take part in the folkloric festival. We also recommend the
Parish Church of the Purificazione di Maria, with precious stone altars and an impressive steeple (47 metres high).
From the main road you can also catch sight of the old
torre del Des Tor (Des Tor tower).
Starting from San Antonio on
Monte Finonchio, you can reach the pretty
Eremo di Santa Cecilia (Hermitage of Santa Cecilia) in one hour. The view is breathtaking and on the 5th of August a pilgrimage is celebrated followed by a picturesque rural festival.
The village, surrounded by orchards and vineyards, lies along the
Strada del Vino e dei Sapori della Vallagarina (
The Road of Wine and Flavours of the Vallagarina).
You can try its excellent
Chardonnay, basis for the production of the Trento DOC sparkling wine and the
superior ‘Ziresi’ Marzemino.
