Vallarsa – Valli del Leno

Mountains of history

To the left of the Adige the Valli del Leno await for alpine trekking and mountain bike trips in search of the ‘malghe’ (shepherd’s huts) and alpine pastures.

The Vallarsa, framed by the peaks of Pasubio and the Little Dolomites, was crossed by the front line of the Great War 1915–18. The mountain conserves significant evidence of that time in the form of trenches, structures, galleries, forts and military roads. It is no coincidence that the heart of the Sentiero della Pace (Path of Peace) lies here, which crosses the European walking route E5 from lake Constance to the Adriatic. Not far beyond the Passo della Streva, visit the Sacrario Militare (Military Shrine) and the adjoining museum, erected in memory of the wartime events that marked the valley. Allow yourself to be immersed in the past at the Museo della civiltà contadina (Farming Civilisation Museum) too.

Leno Valleys are the perfect place for hikes on the paths of history but offer pleasant surprises also for prehistory lovers. Along the routes that cross the massif of Pasubio with a little luck you could see some traces of the passage of the dinosaurs.

The Hermitage of San Colombano, castled on an overhanging wall on Leno stream and the Shrine of Madonna delle Salette, that watches over the population, are the sacred sites of Trambileno, guardians of the silence of the valleys.

The unpolluted landscape of Maso San Giuseppe and the wonderful view of the ancient medieval Church Santa Maria Maddalena are the flagships of Terragnolo. Among its several villages there is a thick net of routes. In Sega di Terragnolo, from May to October you can visit a Venetian sawmill of 1743.

Other activities include fishing, health trails and the large football pitch, destination for important sports retreats.
