Mushrooming

The Trentino undergrowth is populated with many different species of mushroom

The best period for a mycological holiday is from mid July to late September.

The best areas are the forests at an altitude between 1000 m and 2000 m. In the small thickets of young trees you can find beautiful and healthy porcini (Boletus edulis, Boletus pinophilus) and a myriad of mushroom species including the delicious chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius), many gypsy mushrooms (Rozites caperata) that are excellent pickled and many other species to be discovered!

In the Province of Trento mushrooming is:

  • free access and free of charge for residents
  • non residents must submit a form to the municipality in which they wish to go mushrooming and pay the set rate
  • everybody must be in possession of valid ID

The form and rate for mushrooming are to be requested from the responsible municipality.

A maximum of 2 kg of mushrooms per day per person can be collected (no under 10s).
The mushrooms must be cleaned on-site and transported in rigid and drilled containers.
Mushrooming hours: 7:00-19:00.

At Rovereto there is an information point for checking the mushrooms, at the courtyard of the Palazzo Municipale in Piazza Podestà. Here you can find expert mycologists from the Rovereto ‘Gruppo Micologico G. Barbacovi’.

The information service is free and open from August to October.
