A vision of power in pictorial oriental carpets.
The exhibition shows the varieties of war’s afghan carpets: handcraft products that had their fortune between 1979 and 2006, but their origin is still unknown.
The protagonists of the exhibition «Borders and battles – Pictorial oriental carpets. A vision of power» are the war rug, war’s carpets manufactured most in Afghanistan, but also in Pakistan, in Iran, in Central Asia and in China. Geographical representation of the world and of the afghan region, planispheres, politic and thematic maps, landscapes, painting of public persons with or without weapons.
In exhibition in Palazzo Alberti two hundred pictorial oriental carpets, of the Foundation Sergio Poggianella. Several kinds of afghan war’s carpets, handcraft products that had their fortune between the soviet invasion of Afghanistan (1979-1989) and the mission Enduring Freedom (2001-2006). Their origin is still unknown, but it is sure that this production represents a drastic break with the tradition of the oriental carpet.
The war rug, that were born in a war context, can show us the way of a “culture of peace”.
Near to the war rug, the exhibition hosts the works of Vittorio Corsini, Andrea de Carvahlo, Federico Lanaro, Aldo Mondino and Sarenco.
