In the showcases you will find a rich collection of objects and photographs, material relating to trench warfare, flyers, posters and testimonies of the experiences of combatants and civilians.

The Italian War History Museum, founded in 1921, is located in the Castle of Rovereto. It boasts extensive documentation dealing not just with the military aspects, but also the cultural and social aspects of the First World War.

The exhibition area, recently renovated, is dedicated to the fighting methods and the equipment of soldiers from the nineteenth century to the First World War.

In the showcases you will find a rich collection of objects and photographs, material relating to trench warfare, flyers, posters and testimonies of the experiences of combatants and civilians.
In the castle towers you can see the collection of modern weapons (XVI-XVIII) and a collection of weapons and instruments from Prehistory to Medieval times.

The Museum of War hosts temporary exhibits dedicated to the memory of the Great War and of modern conflicts, educational activities for families and schools. Moreover, it also promotes study and research, oversees the publication of works which are historical and documentary in nature, participates in film-making.

In the past, the castle of Rovereto was home to Maria Dolens, the renowned Campana dei Caduti (memorial bell), now located in Colle di Miravalle. In its halls you can see the original chalk model.

Admission to the museum is included in the Museum Pass.

In order to access, it is necessary to comply with the Covid dispositions in respect with the currently in force law.

Opening time

From Tuesday to Sunday: 10.30 – 18.00 (last entrance at 16.30). Open on Mondays 8th, 15th and 22nd August.


From mid-May to 31 October: Tuesday to Sunday: 10.30-18.00 (last admission at 16.30)

Closed on Mondays, 24, 25, 31 December and 1 January

Reservation is not required from Monday to Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday reservation is required by purchasing the ticket online within the previous day.

Booking is required for groups of more than 8 people, to book within the day before the visit only by mail:
To small groups the Museum organizes a guided tour every week at a fixed time, at a cost of 3 euros in addition to the cost of the entrance ticket. To find out the calendar of visits, consult the Events page. Guided tours every Sunday from 11/09 to 18/12 and Wednesday 28/12, at 11 a.m.

For Trentino Guest Card holders, it is possible to book entrance to the Museum with the Trentino Guest Card App or on the dedicated website The reservation gives right to priority entry. Guided visits for adults and visits for families (they only pay the cost of the service of 3 euros) and cultural evenings are among the services with reservation with Guest Card.

  • € 7,00: Groups – price pro person for groups with minimum 15 paying adults, visitors which exhibit one of these cards: ACI di Trento, ACLI, AIB ANLA, ARCI del Trentino, ASAT, Associazione Lagarina Storia Antica, CGIL del Trentino, FAI, FederCircoli del Trentino, GARDO, SAT, TCI, UNPLI, VOLKSBANK.
  • € 2,00: children from 6 to 17 years and school classes
  • Free: children until 5 years, disabled people and his helper, visitors with Guest Card Trentino, teachers which accompany the classes – 2 for each class-, one group leader for each group, accredited journalists (to be accredited, write to at least two days before the visit)
  • Family price: for each parent who pays the whole price, free one child until 14 years
  • The annual ticket costs € 12,00, is nominative and entitles you to free admission to the museum and temporary exhibitions for 12 months from the date of issue.
