From the "Museo della Città" to the scenic dome of the Mart Museum
A walk through the historic centre of Rovereto. A one-kilometre itinerary to discover the stories and figures that made the city renowned.
Just one kilometre long, yet full of surprises. The itinerary unfolds as an open-air urban story.
The walk begins at the Museo della Città, housed in the 18th-century Palazzo Sichart, before opening out onto the Leno stream, best admired from the arch of Ponte Forbato.
It then continues towards Piazza del Podestà, dramatically framed by two Venetian-style buildings: Palazzo Pretorio, now the Town Hall, and the Castle of Rovereto, which has housed the MITAG, Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra di Rovereto since 1921. Just below the fortress, a series of rooms is dedicated to First World War artillery.
The route then climbs towards the heart of Rovereto along via della Terra. In Piazza San Marco, take a moment to admire the façade bearing the Lion of Saint Mark, symbol of Venice’s patron saint. The walk continues through Porta San Marco, built at the edge of the town during Venetian rule.
In the centre of Campiello del Trivio, a monument invites reflection on the extensive damage the city suffered during the First World War, when it lay just a few kilometres from the Austro-Italian front line.
Next to the entrance portal of Palazzo Todeschi-Micheli, pause to read the curious plaque commemorating thirteen-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was a guest of the barone Todeschi on Christmas Eve 1769.
On reaching Piazza Battisti, head to the Collezione Bontadi-COBO to enjoy a coffee while discovering the story of a family business spanning generations. The itinerary then continues to Piazza Rosmini, where you can admire the elegant Palazzo del Ben.
At the beginning of Corso Bettini, the 18th-century avenue once known as Corso Nuovo, a plaque recalls Goethe’s journey through Italy. A stop is a must in front of Teatro Zandonai, the first theatre in Trentino named after the composer Riccardo Zandonai (1883–1944).
The walk links the historic heart of the city with MART, the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, designed by Mario Botta and now a symbol of the city thanks to its iconic glass dome. Beneath it lies a modern agora, a space that tells the story of a changing Rovereto while remaining rooted in its past.

- Saturday 2 May, 30 May, 12 September, 10 and 31 October, 21 November and 5 December 2026: meeting at 3:00 p.m. and end of the activity at 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday 27 June, 11 July and 15 August 2026: evening event, meeting at 8:30 p.m. and end of the activity at 10:00 p.m.

- Full price: €10 for adults
- Reduced price: €7 for Museum Pass holders, Trentino Guest Card holders (maximum 6 adults with Trentino Guest Card per experience), children and young people aged 6 to 26, and companions of people with reduced mobility
- Free: children up to 5 years old, people with reduced mobility
Accessibility: The experience is suitable for people with reduced mobility. The service is confirmed with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 30 participants.
Booking is mandatory by 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the visit for daytime itineraries, and by 5:00 p.m. on the Saturday itself for evening itineraries.
