The Giro d'Italia passes through Vallagarina

On the 23 of May the Giro d’Italia will stop at Monte Bondone, after crossing the Vallagarina from Rovereto to Aldeno.

The sixteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023 starts from Sabbio Chiese, before passing through the towns on the western coast of Lake Garda such as Salò, Gargnano, Limone sul Garda, and then entering Trentino through Riva del Garda, amidst unique and evocative sights.

The tour goes from Torbole and Nago, crosses the Santa Barbara pass and the Bordala pass, and finally enters the Vallagarina area: the first section goes through Villa Lagarina across the Adige to enter Rovereto, before the steep climb to Albaredo.

From this point the mountain landscape that skirts Monte Zugna will follow the race as far as Matassone, a peak that is followed by a downhill section to Noriglio, passing through Arlanach and Anghebeni. It then turns towards the Folgaria plateau via Serrada and descends the Adige valley to Calliano, before finally climbing Monte Bondone from the Aldeno side with its changes in gradient with peaks of up to 15%, to cross the finish line at Viote.

The stage has a total length of 203 km and collects over 5000 metres of altitude difference between the tough climbs and demanding descents.

This year there will be no stage towns in Vallagarina, unlike the Giro d’Italia 2021 whose 17th stage took place entirely in Trentino, passing over Monte Baldo and Lessinia, but we invite you all to come down to cheer and celebrate the passage of the Giro d’Italia 2023 cyclists along the route.
