62nd International Athletics Meeting

Having surpassed half a century of history, the Palio Città della Quercia is Italy's oldest track and field meeting. This eagerly awaited sporting event brings the name of Rovereto to audiences around the world thanks to its live broadcast on Rai Sport.

The "Palio Città della Quercia" (International Athletics Meeting) has always been a major showcase for international athletics, attracting some of the greatest champions of the sport to Rovereto and Trentino.

The Italian CSI Championships planted the seed for an event that has grown steadily in both quality and prestige over the years. Following its first national editions, the "Palio" earned a place on the international calendar in the early 1970s. Then, in 1991, it joined the "Federazione Europea" circuit.

The Rovereto meeting is the oldest track and field event in Italy and one of the oldest of its kind in Europe and worldwide. Over more than half a century, the meeting has welcomed many of the greatest names in Italian and international athletics.

The roll of honour of Olympic and World Championship medallists who have graced the "Palio" is now remarkably long. Memorable names include Sebastian Coe, Jonathan Edwards, Stefka Kostadinova, Fita Lovin, Stacy Dragila, Javier Sotomayor, John Aki Bua, Jacek Wszola, Nenad Stekić, and the Kenyan Kariuki, who set the world record in the 2,000m steeplechase.

Among the unforgettable Italian athletes are Pietro Mennea's sprints, Renato Dionisi's Italian record, Gabriella Dorio's 3,000m record, the jumps of Fiona May and Giovanni Evangelisti, the spectacular middle-distance races of Alberto Cova and Francesco Panetta, and the appearance of Olympic race walking champion Ivano Brugnetti.

The "Palio Città della Quercia" has become part of the heritage of the city of Rovereto and the whole of Trentino—not only as a sporting event, but also as a symbol of what can be achieved through the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers.

For more than 40 years, the event has been broadcast live on Rai Sport, bringing the name of Rovereto to viewers across Italy and around the world.
