Walk through Sacred Art
A journey through time to discover frescoed cloisters, ancient oratories, and monumental churches.
The tour begins in the Santa Maria district, at the baroque church of the same name. Elegant altars and the apse, decorated with masterpieces of 18th-century painting, await discovery, along with the nave vault, adorned with the distinctive “graffito” technique.
The origins of the church can be traced in the cloister beside it – a jewel that has survived centuries and renovations, to be crossed quietly and with attention to the smallest details.
The route continues towards Ponte Forbato, not before admiring a small church that often goes unnoticed even by locals: Sant’Osvaldo, a building with an elegant neoclassical profile, surrounded by a hidden garden.
Heading up Via della Terra, among the noble palaces that line the ancient street, you enter a place usually closed to the public, yet no less worthy of being told.
The Oratory of the Redentore was founded in the 17th century to host the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, and it still fascinates today with its unique structure, suspended between the arcades of Via Portici and the upper part of the city.
The tour ends at San Marco, the archpriest church that has witnessed centuries of events and personalities, from the famous Mozart in 1769 to the Rovereto philosophers Girolamo Tartarotti and Antonio Rosmini.
