{"id":7547,"date":"2014-12-04T16:42:12","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T15:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.visitrovereto.it\/discover\/chiese-e-luoghi-sacri\/pieve-di-avio\/"},"modified":"2025-03-12T10:47:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-12T09:47:26","slug":"the-parish-church-of-avio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.visitrovereto.it\/en\/discover\/churches-and-sacred-places\/the-parish-church-of-avio\/","title":{"rendered":"The Parish Church of Avio"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Ancient church from the early Middle Ages<\/h2>\n<div class=\"desc\">\n<p>The parish has ancient origins and served a vast territory that belonged to the diocese of Verona.<\/p>\n<p>The immersion font and two capitals places to support the arches of the typical white stone bell tower date from the <strong>early Middle Ages<\/strong> and represent the most ancient part of the church that has a three nave layout, fruit of a complex architectural evolution.<\/p>\n<p>Within are frescoes that can be dated to the late twelfth century, the work of anonymous <strong>Veronese masters<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAlso from Verona, known as the city of the Scaligera, was <strong>Gian Maria Falconetto<\/strong>, who in the late fifteenth century painted the face of the apse with five medallions representing God the Father and the Four Evangelists.<\/p>\n<p>We owe the elegant <strong>Quattro Sibille<\/strong> (Four Sibyls) to Paolo Farinati, who adorned the ceiling of the right aisle.<\/p>\n<p>A valuable bas-relief in painted stone by <strong>Guglielmo Emanuelli<\/strong> dated 1502, represents Christ in Mercy, and emits a strong expressionist power.<br \/>\nThe dedication to Our Lady the Immaculate is witnessed by a valuable sixteenth century wooden statue, traceable to the most prestigious Venetian workshops of the period.<\/p>\n<p>The ex \u2013 voti present in this small sacristy bear witness to deeply rooted religion in this local community.<\/p>\n<p>Discover the good practices for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitrovereto.it\/en\/tips-for-a-responsible-cultural-experience\/\">responsible cultural experience<\/a>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ancient church from the early Middle Ages The parish has ancient origins and served a vast territory that belonged to the diocese of Verona.
