Italian landscapes on show at Mart museum
The evolution of sceneries painting from Posillipo-School (Naples) to the “Landscapes of Soul”, crossing the innovative experience of Tuscan Macchiaioli.
Italian landscapes are the favourite destination for european travellers taken up by the traditional Grand Tour; that’s why these sceneries are the main character of this exhibition dedicated by Mart Museum to Nineteenth Century painting.
The exhibition crosses a century of researches dedicated to the landscape and its light and colours effects:
- painting experiences grown in south Italy with Posillipo-School (Naples)
- the basic and innovative experience of tuscan Macchiaioli
- the “Landscapes of Soul“, a symbolist trend introduced in the first editions of the “Venice Biennale”
The technological inventions that characterized the nineteenth century, such as photography, the new points of view to observe the world (the views from the balloon, for example) and a changed sensibility, marked the evolution of landscape painting from a simple “view” to the more complex and subjective “vision”.
On show works by Bezzi, Ciardi, De Nittis, Fattori, Fragiacomo, Gigante, Lega, Signorini.
