MITAG Italian Historical War Museum

In the showcases you will find a rich collection of objects and photographs, material relating to trench warfare, flyers, posters and testimonies of the experiences of combatants and civilians.

The Museum, housed within the Castle of Rovereto, has been a landmark destination for history enthusiasts since 1921. Its most renowned section is dedicated to the Great War, offering a compelling journey through one of the most significant periods of modern history. The collection features original uniforms, weapons, military equipment, and even an authentic Nieuport-Macchi Ni.10 biplane. Through carefully curated displays, visitors can also discover the often-overlooked stories of civilians and refugees who endured the most dramatic consequences of the conflict.

Inside the castle’s imposing towers, an extraordinary collection of early modern weapons (16th–18th centuries) awaits exploration. Suits of armor, edged weapons, firearms, dueling pistols, and hunting equipment reveal centuries of military craftsmanship and innovation.

The Museum also hosts engaging temporary exhibitions that explore the conflicts of the 20th century from multiple perspectives, offering fresh insights into historical events and their lasting impact.

During the summer season, visitors can extend their experience with the recently renovated “Great War Artillery 1914–1918” section in nearby Piazza Podestà, where impressive artillery pieces bring the scale of the conflict vividly to life.
