Palazzo dell’Annona – Civic Library

A heritage of more than 500.000 books

A reference library and a reading room are the two souls of the Civic Library of Rovereto, which is part of the cultural centre of the MART museum and boasts more than 500.000 books.
Its origins date back to the half of the 18th century, but the move to Palazzo dell’Annona took place in 1921. In the last years important donations and bequests have enriched the library not only with printed books but also with manuscripts by Tartarotti, Vannetti and their correspondents and with the archives of the Lodron and Moll families. The open shelf library dates back to 1970 and was supported by the introduction of an automatization system and by the creation of an online Bibliographical Catalogue for Trentino.
Extended in 2002 as a part of the project of the MART cultural center, the library boasts also several multimedia workstations.
