In the showcases you will find a rich collection of objects and photographs, material relating to trench warfare, flyers, posters and testimonies of the experiences of combatants and civilians.
The Italian War History Museum, founded in 1921, is located in the Castle of Rovereto. It boasts extensive documentation dealing not just with the military aspects, but also the cultural and social aspects of the First World War.
The exhibition area, recently renovated, is dedicated to the fighting methods and the equipment of soldiers from the nineteenth century to the First World War.
In the showcases you will find a rich collection of objects and photographs, material relating to trench warfare, flyers, posters and testimonies of the experiences of combatants and civilians.
In the castle towers you can see the collection of modern weapons (XVI-XVIII) and a collection of weapons and instruments from Prehistory to Medieval times.
The Museum of War hosts temporary exhibits dedicated to the memory of the Great War and of modern conflicts, educational activities for families and schools. Moreover, it also promotes study and research, oversees the publication of works which are historical and documentary in nature, participates in film-making.
In the past, the castle of Rovereto was home to Maria Dolens, the renowned Campana dei Caduti (memorial bell), now located in Colle di Miravalle. In its halls you can see the original chalk model.
Admission to the museum is included in the Museum Pass.

Opening time
From Tuesday to Sunday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (last admission at 5 p.m.).
Closed on Mondays and on the 24th, 25th, 31st December, January 1st.
Special openings: January the 6th, April the 25th, May the 1st
Reservation is not required to visit the Museum.
Reservations are compulsory by the previous day, for guided tours (at a cost of 3 euros in addition to the entrance fee) and for groups of more than 8 people.

Trentino Guest Card holders can book entry to the Museum (at predefined times) via the App Mio Trentino. The booking entitles the holder to priority entry. Guided tours for adults and family visits (they only pay the service charge of 3 euro) and cultural evenings are also among the services which can be booked with the Guest Card.

- reduced price: € 7,00 Groups with at least 10 paying adults, military personnel and police (on presentation of badge), members of affiliated organisations, visitors showing the leaflet “Museums and the Great War in Trentino” with the stamp of another museum of the Trentino Great War Network
- reduced: € 2,00 Children and young people from 6 to 17 years of age, free visiting classes
- free of charge: Children and young people up to the age of 17 (with accompanying adults), disabled visitors and their carers, ANMIC members with card, visitors with Trentino Guest Card and Museum Pass, military personnel and police on duty, members of the Museo della Guerra, members of the Cassa Rurale di Rovereto with I’mart card signatories accompanying classes (2 per class), a group leader for each group, accredited journalists (to be accredited write to comunicazione@museodellaguerra.it at least two days before the visit), MIBAC officials and the Department of Culture of the Autonomous Province of Trento, civil service workers (show your card)
- Family rate: Adults pay full price, all minors in the same household get in free of charge. With the Euregio Family Pass the family nucleus consisting of 1 or 2 adults and minor children gets in at the cost of a single reduced ticket.
