Brentonico, the gem of Baldo

“The Garden of Italy” in the heart of Parco Monte Baldo

It is the first mountain you see when you enter Trentino. Here you can trek and mountain bike in summer and ski on the pistes of Polsa, San Valentino and San Giacomo in winter

Brentonico plateau: on the Trentino side of Monte Baldo, between Adige and Garda, in the heart of Parco del Baldo. Known to all European botanists as “The Garden of Italy” for its rare plants and flowers.

The botanical garden of Palazzo Eccheli-Baisi has lovely flower varieties, most of which are found in the Alps. Go on a guided tour, which includes a visit to the palazzo exhibits and the Fossil museum.

Visit the old Romanesque crypt and the medieval church of SS. Pietro and Paolo. Relax in the shade of old horse-chestnuts in Palù park. In Sorne you can visit Mulino Zeni, a Nineteenth century mill in perfect working order. Go on a panoramic trip on foot or bike along the trails of the Great War. Monte Altissimo, Vignola and Monte Giovo are home to trenches, tunnels, fortifications and barracks; you can find them walking along the “Path of Peace”. Discover ancient endemisms in the reserve of Bès-Corna Piana. Stop at a shelter or an Alpine shepherd’s hut, watch the sunrise and taste freshly drawn milk.

Do you love hiking, biking or horse riding? Explore the large network of forest paths!

During summer there is a shuttle bus connecting Brentonico with Polsa, San Giacomo and San Valentino through panoramic roads, with various stops at the departure of the main excursions to Monte Baldo.

The Brentonico plateau is the base of children’s summer camps and training of professional soccer teams, this year Virtus Entella from 14th to 29th July, and the Italian and German national ski teams.

Savour the territory by tasting the produce used to prepare the traditional Trentino dishes: canederli, strangolapreti and potato polenta, together with delicious “golden” apples, cheeses, strudel and zelten.

You can taste traditional delicacies not only in local restaurants, but also by taking part to Golosaneve and Golosabici: a food and wine multiple-step path on Monte Baldo. The first one will took place in winter, while the second one in summer, be sure to take your mountain bike with you!

Go for a walk in the chestnut groves of Castione and discover the colors and flavours of autumn with the themed menus of the “Chestnut Festival“.

In winter you can enjoy a supper by candlelight after you’ve skied in Polsa and San Valentino, skated in San Giacomo or snowshoed up to Monte Vignola.

The pistes in Trentino nearest to the plains are located here: just an hour from Verona you can ski in complete safety on wide and sunny pistes, and avoid the hassles of traffic and finding parking.
